Recipe Story
origins & traditionsCrispy Wonton Dumplings are a beloved Chinese appetizer featuring delicate wonton wrappers filled with a savory mixture of ground pork, shrimp, garlic, ginger, and aromatics. Each dumpling is carefully folded and deep-fried until golden and crispy on the outside while remaining juicy and flavorful inside. The contrast of textures makes these wontons irresistible. Traditionally served at dim sum restaurants and family gatherings, these dumplings are accompanied by a classic sweet and sour sauce that perfectly complements the rich filling. The preparation involves finely chopping the ingredients to create a cohesive filling, wrapping each wonton with precision, and frying them to crispy perfection. Whether served as a starter for a dinner party or as part of a larger Chinese feast, these wontons are always a crowd-pleaser.
Instructions
step by stepIn a large mixing bowl, combine ground pork, finely chopped shrimp, minced garlic, grated ginger, chopped green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
Lay out wonton wrappers on a clean work surface. Place about 1 teaspoon of filling in the center of each wrapper.
Dip your finger in water and moisten the edges of the wonton wrapper.
Fold the wrapper diagonally to form a triangle, pressing edges firmly to seal. Then bring the two bottom corners together and press to seal, creating the classic wonton shape.
Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.
Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot or wok to 350°F (175°C).
Carefully add wontons in batches, avoiding overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
For the dipping sauce, whisk together rice vinegar, soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, and a pinch of red pepper flakes.
Serve wontons hot with dipping sauce on the side.
