Elimination diet for autoimmune conditions
The Autoimmune Protocol (AIP) diet is a specialized, science-based elimination diet designed to help individuals with autoimmune conditions identify and remove foods that may trigger inflammation and immune responses. The diet involves eliminating a wide range of potential dietary triggers, including grains, legumes, dairy, refined sugars, processed foods, industrial seed oils, eggs, nuts, seeds, nightshade vegetables, and food additives. After a period of elimination, foods are slowly reintroduced one at a time while monitoring for adverse reactions. The goal of the AIP diet is to reduce symptoms, heal the gut, and support immune system regulation by emphasizing nutrient-dense, anti-inflammatory foods such as vegetables (except nightshades), high-quality meats and fish, organ meats, fermented foods, and healthy fats like coconut and olive oil. This protocol also encourages lifestyle practices such as stress management, adequate sleep, and physical activity to support overall health and autoimmune management.
