Very low carb, high fat diet
The ketogenic diet is a nutritional approach characterized by a very low intake of carbohydrates, a high consumption of healthy fats, and a moderate amount of protein. This dietary pattern is designed to shift the body’s metabolism into a state called ketosis, wherein fat becomes the primary source of energy instead of carbohydrates. By significantly reducing carbohydrate intake, usually to less than 50 grams per day, the body begins to produce molecules called ketones in the liver, which serve as an alternative energy source for the brain and other organs. The ketogenic diet typically includes foods such as meat, fish, eggs, butter, nuts, seeds, low-carb vegetables, and healthy oils, while avoiding grains, sugars, fruits, and starchy vegetables.
